Changes

Spring and fall are my favorite times of the year. I love the change in colors and either the warming up or the cooling off of temperatures. Even though it is hard to say good bye to summer fruit and days at the pool it is hello to fall fruits, like apples (yes I know you can buy apples all year long but they never taste as good as they do during the fall), and cozy nights snuggled with a good book, a blanket and a cup of hot chocolate. Plus, I love the holidays headed around the corner; Halloween, Thanksgiving, and of course Christmas.

Well, this year with the change in temps I wanted to make a change too. Nothing drastic but I cut my hair. It was never really long but had been the same basic haircut for the last 7 years just a bit different in shade of blonde is all; shoulder length and some long layers. Well, I went shorter and added more layers. The color is still about the same, a bit darker to head off into the winter so sun kissed tips aren't so drastic from the darker color growing in.

I like it. I was somewhat nervous but at the same time I think the hairstylist could have shaved my head bald and I would have thought, "hey this will be a nice change for a while." I just wanted a breath of fresh air in my own look. If I get tired of it, it will always grow. Now I just have to get used to not being able to pull it back in a pony tail and to use a bobby pin to keep my bangs out of my eyes.

Anyways, here here to fresh starts and the changes in the air.

Harvest Moon

Saturday Ogden was supposed to have it's 6th annual harvest moon festival. I have to admit I was REALLY looking forward to it. There were going to be a lot of different activities for kids and the best part was they were going to be free. How can it get any better. Well, Saturday rolls around and what happens? It SNOWS!!!!! We went anyways. B was post call that day and I wanted to get outside even if it meant in the snow and rain and enjoy our daddy. They didn't say that activities were going to be cancelled if it rained so I really did think they would have tents and what not in case of bad weather. I mean after all it is Utah and weather is never a sure thing here.

When we got downtown we quickly saw that there was nothing going on like there was supposed to be. Still I was hopeful. We went to Great Harvest to see if they were still making bread pumpkins with the kids and sure enough, THEY WERE. So Thing 1 and I washed our hands and put on our aprons and got into the action. After taking the picture of the two of us, Daddy went and took a nap at our table. Bless his heart he is soooo good to come along even when he is exhausted.
Thing 1 was in awe of the orange dough and had fun getting all messy. She is getting old enough to enjoy doing things in the kitchen now and isn't just making a mess. While we waited for the bread to rise and bake we ate a lite lunch there and let Thing 1 dance to the music. When we left for home Thing 1 says to me, " That was fun, Mom, thanks." Even though I felt bad at first thinking I had disappointed her in the lack of fun things to do, she still had fun.

So the next night we made homemade soup and ate our bread bowls. Albeit, Thing 1 refused to let me put her soup into her bread bowl. She didn't want to make it all soggy. "Bread is just for eating, mom."

Maybe next year won't be such a bust, even if it is we can still count on Great Harvest to pull through.

Our First Aid Kit

So McKay Dee gave B a sports medicine bag and I asked him if it could serve as our "first aid kit" as well. The thing is HUGE and totally jammed pack of stuff!!!! I do love the bag itself though and I am glad he picked red, not that it makes any difference what so ever to me. It is full of different medicines, suture stuff and IV things and who knows what. Well, actually B does but I don't. I thought it was hilarious so I wanted to add it in. As he was going through what it has he was surprised of everything it had in it. I was sad it didn't have a thermometer as ours just broke. I guess you don't need to take the temps of high school football players when they are injured- darn it. Anyways, the dumb things we laugh at here around our home.

A Few of Our Favorite Things

A sleeping child. I found her here one afternoon; asleep in my jogger . I had to search for her after realizing it was "too" quite.

Strollers and "babies". Thing 1 is George's mommy, she loves this
little doll her daddy bought her for her birthday and carts him ALL over.

A clean child (like I said she wears her "Blink Blink" everywhere).

Playing in the bath tub.

A FULLY dressed child.

Picking out your own outfit. Here you can see more of its glory and its many lovely layers and no it wasn't cold, nor is that skirt the ONLY piece of clothing she owns, she just LOVES it and if it is clean she wears it. Needless to say it gets washed a LOT!!!

35 Years

My in-laws have been married for 35 years. They have accomplished so much. They have 6 great kids and 11 grand kids with 3 more on the way. We went up to the Burg to celebrate Labor day and throw a surprise dinner for them. A, B's sister, flew in from WI with her two girls (her husband had to stay for school). Her arrival was the biggest surprise for Bob and Linda and fun to catch them off guard. The grand kids had a fun time running around and screaming- especially since all but two are girls. Linds, B's youngest sister, put together a slide show of the family and it was such fun.
I brought my camera but of course with all the hubbub I didn't get to take one photo. Which is such a shame since there were so many of us there. The only ones missing were el Jefe in Ca on his mission and J in WI. I have to see if Linds has any to add.
