It feels good

It is nice to finally be caught up with the happenings of the new year. In January we went to California early on and it was HEAVENLY!! Then we came home and after a week we were hit with some nasty bugs, first a stomach one then one in the chest and then poor Thing 1 got an ear infection- yeah for dad being a doctor so he could diagnosis it for us. It was her first one in all her 4.5 years, all in all not too bad. Anyway, the bugs took their toll on us for a while. Then el Jefe, B's brother, came home from his mission and we went to the Burg for a few days so B could hang out with him for a bit. We are home again and for the moment we aren't sick. We hope the rest of the month is this good. (Only time will tell as B is back on call though. The one good thing about call is that it gives me more time to blog. So we should stay up to date for the next few months.)

Scoot Scoot

Thing 2 does this little thing where she scoots right up next to you and then lounges back on you. She does it to all of us and the cats soft house as well as the cats if they let her. Fortunately, our cats are really good cats and they let her scoot up and lean on them. We don't let her usually, this time we did just long enough to take the pictures. While Thing 2 is pleased with herself, Sleepy isn't too fond of the situation.

Snow Angels

Thing 1 size snow angels.
B placed Thing2 in the snow and moved her little legs and arms to make Thing 2 snow angels and she thought it was hilarious. She enjoys the snow like the others do.

Again B was good enough to take the girls out and play in the snow. I just came out to take a few pictures. You might be able to hear I was sick. After our California trip we were all hit with a few bugs, one right after the other. For a while I sounded as if I smoked 5 packs a day for 50 years. It was awesome.

The Living Planet

Sandy has a small aquarium that we went to while we had family in town. While it was no Sea World it still had its own little charm.

How to Use a Spoon

Thing 2 is learning how to use a spoon. She loves yogurt and I usually try and it to her, but she really wanted to try it on her own. Besides making a big mess on her shirt it didn't hurt anything. It is cute how proud of herself she is for doing stuff like this. She loves trying to be a big girl.

Good Bye Green

When I was pregnant with Thing 2 I changed the kitchen from a grey tan to a BRIGHT GREEN. You can see it in the earlier pictures of Thing 2's birthday. Well, it was time to say goodbye to the green. It served its purpose, which was to help with a bit of seasonal depression, and then it was time to go. Now the kitchen is a color called Apricot Lilly. It is peachy but not to orange, warm and a nice change from the bright green we had before. I don't think I will change it again before we move next year...at least that is what I say for now.

Off to the Show

A few weeks ago my brother and his girls came out for a week. While they were here the girls and I went to see Sleeping Beauty. It was so much fun to get them all dolled up and take them out to a play. It was the first one that any of them had been to and hopefully not the last.

(Oh yeah, I went dark red after the CA trip. It was actually strawberry blond while we were there. I am going all dark this next trip to the salon next week I believe. At lest for now I think I will.)

Babyzilla

Before we went out of town I bought our cats a few toys to keep them happy while we were gone. These little cubes attach together and the cats can crawl through them and have fun playing and what not. My daughters enjoy them more then the cats do.

Sea World

Petting the rays. Thing 1 was really afraid at first but then she warmed right up to them and they did to her as well. She loved it at the end. Even more than the dolphins.

This was a picture before she got into the whole things, she wasn't too thrilled with the slimy feel or being wet. My friend Amy is in the background with her little boy Cohen, he was totally digging it. Thing 2 ..not so much. It REALLY freaked her out and she LOVES to get wet. She tries to climb into the tub all the time, even when there is no water. Go figure.

I love Sea World. I would even work there if I could. Even if I had to clean dolphin poo out of their pool I would, and I would probably be singing while doing it. OK so I probably wouldn't love the poo job but I would love to work with marine animals. We had a blast and I am looking forward to going back in May.

Rasin on the brain

Need I say more?

Balboa Island

We went for a whirl on the carousel.

Thing 2's first trip, she thought it was pretty grand.

Even though typical California weather for January is in the 60's we hit the 70's every day, close to the 80's even. It was PERFECT weather. It was hard to come back to the bitter cold of UT. I think I suffered a bout of depression after coming home to the cold to be honest.

San Diego Zoo

Awesome face, huh?
Thing 2 had a bit of a scare on this trip. We had been carrying her on our shoulders so she could see better. While she was on her dad's shoulders she decided she wanted to come down. Even though B was holding both her little legs she managed to get free, quite fast might I add, and fell to the ground. SUPER dad came to the rescue and actually caught her literally an inch from the ground before she biffed it hard onto the cement. She was completely fine but her neck hurt a little from the the fall. Why you ask? Because B caught her by the back of her shirt so she got jerked into the collar and it kinda choked her. As you see in the photo above no damage was done, but the rest of the day she would pull on the front of her collar to get it away from her little neck. Yeah for dad's super reflexes.
We have a bunch of monkeys at my house.

Ride that bear! Yee Haw!!

Boom Boom Boom

This clip is short and doesn't have anything exciting in it. Not even remotely. But as a parent I love to hear her little voice. She is playing in the sand as B and Thing 1 are digging a whole to bury themselves in. When Thing 1 isn't whining, I love her sweet voice. She really is a good kid too.

Fun in the sand

Baby licking dirty rock. Yummmm!

B and Thing 1 have a little game that he says the type of face to make and they both make that emotion for the camera. I think it is hilarious. I love to see what faces Thing 1 comes up with.

Little miss attitude here on the beach. She was practicing standing more and more on our trip. Watching my girlfriend's daughter walk got her to walk across the room for the first time on our trip. She has been moving ever since.

Thing 1 and Thing  2 both love to play in the sand. Most kids do I believe. Thing 2 also likes to eat it, not my favorite part of the trip. Where we were staying was directly across from the beach. All we had to do was walk out the condo area and across the pedestrian overpass that was right in front of our place and wa la on the beach. It was really nice for all of us. B could take Thing 1 to the beach while I stayed with Thing 2 and then we could join them later. We didn't have to worry about driving anywhere to enjoy the beach, all the other stuff, yes, but the beach no.

Bird Girl

She was a bit more hesitant with the macaw then the parrot but she still did really well with him on her arm. The owner had to hold her arm up because the bird was so heavy for her.

After visiting the seals we went to the beach and found a man with a parrot and a few macaws. I know it is common to see people with birds like this in California and Thing 1 has seen them before at a zoo but has never been so close to them in person. She loved being able to pet them and let them sit on her. It was fun to watch.
